Dear Esteemed Colleagues, Partners in Health, and Fellow Stewards of Healing,
It is with profound humility and deep gratitude that I address you today as President of the Misamis Oriental Medical Society.
In assuming this role, I do not stand alone. I stand alongside each of you—the physicians, surgeons, specialists, and community health advocates who have devoted your lives to the service of others. Misamis Oriental is more than a province; it is a living tapestry of resilience, culture, and compassion. From our coastal barangays to the mountainous interiors, our people carry stories of survival, strength, and hope. In every clinic, hospital, and outreach mission, we—the members of this society—are entrusted with the sacred duty to listen, to heal, and to walk beside them.
This year, our society embraces the theme of Legacy and Leadership.
We pay tribute to the generations of doctors who came before us—those who practiced medicine by lantern light and handwritten charts, who braved typhoons to reach remote patients, and who taught us that healing is not merely a science, but a calling. Their legacy lives on in our hands, our hearts, and our daily decisions.
Yet legacy alone is not sufficient. We must lead. We must innovate. We must respond to the evolving needs of our communities with courage, clarity, and compassion.
To that end, we commit to:
Strengthening our partnerships with local government units, the Department of Health, and allied health professionals
Expanding continuing medical education to ensure our members remain aligned with global standards
Advocating for mental health, indigenous wellness practices, and inclusive, equitable care
Supporting our young physicians through mentorship, guidance, and professional development
Upholding the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and accountability in every consultation, prescription, and referral
Leadership is not measured by titles or accolades. It is measured by presence—by the physician who stays late to comfort a grieving family, by the rural doctor who walks kilometers to reach a patient, and by the society member who volunteers on weekends to teach first aid in schools. These quiet acts of service are the heartbeat of our profession.
As we move forward, I invite each of you to view this society not merely as an organization, but as a sanctuary—a space where we can share wisdom, restore strength, and celebrate the sacred art of healing.
Let us continue to walk together, not only as colleagues, but as a community bound by purpose, legacy, and an enduring love for the people we serve.
